Weather & Air Quality Closures

Weather Updates: Our website will be updated daily to reflect any schedule changes due to adverse or extreme weather situations. The garden will close at 1 pm on days with extreme heat warnings to ensure the safety of staff and visitors. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we look forward to your next visit to the garden. If you are in need of refuge from the heat, please check out these cooling centers.

Air Quality: The Garden will close on days when the Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to be 150 or over.

High Winds: Due to safety concerns with falling tree debris, the Garden may close and/or programs may be canceled or modified if wind gusts of more than 25 MPH are predicted.
‍

Snow & Ice: Garden pathways and stairs can be hazardous in icy weather. The Garden will close if deemed unsafe for staff and visitors.

Excessive Heat: The Garden will close at 1 pm on days when extreme heat warnings are forecast by the National Weather Service. Programs may be canceled or modified if temperatures reach 90+ degrees.

Thunder and Lightning: Thunder and lightning is very rare in the Garden. If thunderstorms have been forecast to occur program cancellations may occur and the Garden may close. If thunder and lightning occurs unexpectedly during a program, group leaders will guide participants to safety.

Event Cancellations: If a program is cancelled Garden staff will contact ticket holders and arrange for a refund or reschedule.
