Intro to Botanical Dyes with Megan Mesloh

We are pleased to offer a 3.5 hour workshop covering the essentials of natural botanical dyeing for textiles with artist Megan Mesloh. In this course students will learn how to mordant or “pre-treat” fibers to accept dye derived from locally foraged plants. After introductions and tea we will take a curated walk through the garden to identify common dye plants, discuss harvesting practices and plant processing. All necessary steps of immersion dyeing on cotton, wool and silk fibers will be covered. Each participant will create a card with the day’s colors along with a dyed silk scarf to keep. All materials provided. Students are welcome to bring a sack lunch or snacks.
