Scott Hoelscher Head Gardener Says Goodbye

Dear Leach Botanical Garden Community,
I am pleased to share that I recently celebrated my 21st anniversary as a gardener at Leach Botanical Garden. I must also share that it will be the last such occasion, as my tenure here will end June 30th.
For years I have been surprised that I didn’t grow tired of working the same job for so long. This is attributed to several factors. First, many lovely employees, volunteers, partners and visitors have supported and embraced me, sharing countless moments of stimulating conversation and affirmation. Second, the development of the Garden, from the humble organization and destination it was, to the important regional resource it has become, brought me great satisfaction. Third, I maintained a positive attitude about my responsibilities. And then there is the space itself and how I lived within it.
It's not an exaggeration to state that I have a deep attachment to this landscape. I have consistently felt delighted by its abundant wonders, whether it be the songs of warblers in springtime or a Trillium in perfect condition. Witnessing similar reactions in others has been deeply gratifying, and I’m proud my work has helped bring joy to them.
I am immensely grateful to all the living elements that have blessed me on this journey.
