Garden FAQs

Visiting with Children

Children 16 and under should be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Visiting with Little Ones:
We recommend using a baby carrier for the best experience and greatest access. Much of the garden features slopes, stairs, and narrow, uneven pathways connecting the Upper Garden, Manor House level, and South Garden, which can be difficult to navigate with a stroller.

If you choose to visit with a stroller, you'll find easy access to our pollinator garden, aerial tree walk, and Far Meadow with room for children to run and play.

Changing tables are available in both the upper garden and Manor House level restrooms.

Accessibility for Wheelchairs & Walkers

The Leach Botanical Garden Upper Garden includes accessible pathways, restrooms, and parking. You can enjoy the Pollinator Garden, Aerial Tree Walk, Covered Arbor, and outdoor fireplace. Please be aware that the rest of the Garden is set within a natural, forested landscape, and much of the site includes sloped terrain, uneven narrow pathways, and stairs.

Accessing the Manor House level:
Visitors using wheelchairs or walkers can access the Manor House level by checking in at the Visitor Services booth to arrange entry through the Manor House gate. Please note that this area must be accessed by driving to the location, as there is no accessible path connecting from the main garden entrance.

Important transportation note: There is a stretch of SE 122nd Ave without a sidewalk between the Foster Rd TriMet stop and the garden’s entry drive at SE Claybourne & 122nd, which impacts ADA access for those arriving by public transit.

Can I Ride a Bike, Skateboard, or Scooter in the Garden?

No, for the safety of all, bikes, skateboards, scooters, and similar vehicles aren’t allowed on garden paths or trails.

Can I Picnic in the Garden?

We encourage you to bring your water bottle, but we ask you to limit any other food to light snacks and that you pack it in, pack it out to help us keep our wildlife wild.

Do you allow photography in the garden?

Visitors are welcome to take pictures of the garden for personal use with their own device such as a smartphone or small camera. Tripods are not allowed in the garden during open hours. Members may bring a tripod during member hours 9-10 AM on Saturdays.

Portrait*, professional, commercial photography, or any photography that comprises a photo shoot or has the appearance of a photo shoot requires advance arrangement and may require an additional fee.

Drones are not allowed in the Garden.
